Gold Carnival - Devious gold making tactics

I'm glad that after being away from World of Warcraft for a few months that I can come back and the amazing JMTC blogging carnival is still around and as vibrant as ever. A big welcome from EuroGR to anyone visiting from the JMTC community for this article.

Now as the topic of this months carnival is “devious gold making tactics” I got thinking about anything devious I did back in Wotlk. Whenever I was on late at night I had a lovely route I used to take that took my past the nests of these 4 creatures:

  • Leaping Hatchling
  • Darting Hatchling
  • Razormaw Hatchling
  • Ravasaur Hatchling
  • Each one was contained in a nest that spawned 3-4x a day. If I was lucky I could come across all 4 nests in one run and sell them on the AH for 2-3k Now I'd say this is a little bit devious as its not something too many people are aware of, especially people on late at night. I was able to do this for a long time and make a considerable amount

Now when Cata came out it brought flying in the old world which made visiting all these nests so much easier

Firstly the Leaping hatchling, this little fellow can be found in the northern barrens and can be frequently found by lucky new characters who are leveling in that area. He sells for 300g on my realm currently

Next is the Darting Hatchling who can be found in the northern area of Dustswallow marsh, as this area is slightly less visited the pet can fetch 450-500g.

Further south in the Un'Goro crater is the best find, the Ravasaur Hatchling, This one is hidden amongst the trees and bushes and is easy to miss. Because hes hard to spot the price on the auction house is 2500-3000g. There are also reports that the nest is on a slower respawn timer than the other 4. Its worth flying out of your way a little bit to check the locations for this one

Lastly over in the Wetlands is the Razormaw hatchling tucked away in a little cave. Finding him can get you 300g.

One thing to consider is that if you take time out of your regular activities to search for these you wont find them every time and your gold/hour rate won't be too impressive. What you should aim for instead is to remind yourself every time you're in those areas to pop in and check on the nests. This can happen several times if you are training your archaeology. As digsites are located all over the old world you're bound to pass un-goro and the wetlands several times on your search for artefacts and finding one of these nests is sure to make your day a happy one. Whats even better is if you do one sweep and find all four!
